2021 EAACI Charles Blackley Award

The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) awarded Professor Stefan Vieths, Vice President of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, with the 2021 Charles Blackley Award for Promotion of the Allergy Specialty.

Professor Dr Stefan Vieths: As a member of the EAACI Research and Outreach Committee, it is particularly important to me to establish a network for research and knowledge exchange in order to overcome challenges in the field of allergy research.

For more than three decades, Professor Stefan Vieths has made key contributions through his scientific commitment and regulatory expertise to further develop and promote the quality, safety, and efficacy of biomedicines in the allergology field. He ensured that the international regulations for allergens issued by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Pharmacopoeia Commission were adapted to the standard of modern biomedicines and contributed to decisive progress in the development of evidence-based allergen products with his commitment to the German Regulation for Therapy Allergens.

With the 2021 Charles Blackley Award for Promotion of the Allergy Specialty, EAACI thanks Professor Vieths for his extraordinary dedication and outstanding work on both the professional and academic sides of allergology. It is one of the highest awards in Europe given by EAACI for scientific and clinical merit in the field of allergology. EAACI is an association of clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals dedicated to improving the health of patients with allergic diseases. It has more than 14,000 members from 125 countries.
