2022 IPFA Award

2022 IPFA Award

The International Plasma and Fractionation Association (IPFA) honoured Dr Micha Nübling, Head of the Major Policy Issues, Coordination Division, with the 2022 IPFA Award.

Dr Micha Nübling: Patients must be able to rely on a solid and safe supply of blood products – blood components for transfusion and medicines derived from plasma.

Dr Micha Nübling has been actively involved in the national and international introduction of methods based on nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) for blood and plasma donation testing since the mid-1990s – then new territory in the field. NAAT methods are now routine in the testing of blood and plasma donations and in the testing of intermediates in the biomedicine production process. Prior to the mandatory introduction of these molecular test methods, Nübling was involved in the development of specifications for the validation of the tests, the required detection limits, and the test design.

He received the 2022 IPFA Award in recognition of his extraordinary achievements in increasing blood safety. IPFA is an association of not-for-profit manufacturers of medicinal products created from human plasma. Its members include blood banks and plasma fractionators from every continent.
